VunderKids - Educational and gaming platform

Challenge - an application for children (children’s design).

Technical challenge - a huge number of different games for different subjects. Below, in the screenshots, we have provided examples of such games. Each of which must be like a constructor. That is, configurable. The text of questions, answer options, pictures, background, and sounds are changed.

For example, in the first picture right now you need to choose the appropriate number. And there could be letters and 1 of them needs to be inserted into a word.

In this version of the lesson there may be different text, pictures.

At the end of the article, we will tell how we managed to simplify the task of constructing games and what came of it.

But for now, let’s dive into what the project was at the start, when the client had just contacted us, and what evolution it went through

Problem - an already prepared technical specification with “wishes” and examples of the interface from another application (we did not refine the technical specification, but took it into work as is).

1. FAQ page (question-answer) - this is how it was illustrated in the technical specification.

2. Rating page - this is how it was illustrated in the technical specification.

And this is how it was described. Just a couple of lines, from which the logic of how the page works is not at all clear. Based on what points is it built, for what period?

We created a document with Development Stages, where the requirements were divided into 5 stages. We will give an example of the first 2 stages.

And the tasks were described in more detail in the Asana Tracker. Here, for the programmers, the very functionality of the FAQ page (question-answer) is described.

A WBS diagram was developed, with the help of which development was tracked. The project was divided into 3 sections: admin panel, website, personal account.

What other features the project had:

- The admin panel was poorly described in the technical specification

- A very large number of translations covering all elements of the application (articles, interface, lessons, games, notifications, sounds)

- Complex animations and audio in game-lessons

- JS game (a lion collects coins from the map)

- Technical consultations were held for the layout designer and designer (assistance in conducting interviews)

Functionality:

- Earning points for completing lessons (points were flexibly configured)

- Certificates for completing levels

- Progress

- Badges of distinction

- Changing application backgrounds

- Registration of a parent account and adding a child

- News

- Question-answer

- Profile

- Choosing a subject/class and completing lessons

- Schedule

Perhaps the article turned out quite dense as it is, and we will talk about simplifying the implementation of games another time, or during a personal consultation. The screenshot above can roughly show how we managed to typify the games and what groups to divide them into.
